One of the world's most prolific blood donors, whose plasma saved over 2 million babies, has passed away.

Known in Australia as the 'Man with the Golden Arm,' Harrison's blood carried a rare antibody, Anti-D, used to create medication for pregnant mothers with rare condition that may cause fatal risks for unborn babies.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service honored Harrison, saying he became a donor after receiving transfusions during a chest surgery at 14 years of age. He went on to donate plasma every two weeks from age 18 until 81.

Harrison's daughter, Tracey Mellowship, said her father was "very proud to have saved so many lives, without any cost or pain. He always said it does not hurt, and the life you save could be your own," she said.

By 2005, he already held the world record for the most blood plasma donated, a title he kept until 2022, when a man in the US surpassed him.
