Nikola Tesla's death ray -

Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla (1856–1943) once attempted to make a weapon that could shoot down airplanes. The public and the media sensationalized the idea and called it a "death ray," despite Tesla’s claims that the invention never actually worked.

The Illuminati - While the Order of the Illuminati was an actual secret society founded in Bavaria, Germany, during the late 18th century, the modern Illuminati has no ties to this Order. Conspiracy theorists believe that the modern Illuminati is actively trying to control the world from behind the scenes.
