Few individuals in the history of the world have made a larger, more expansive impact on the course of humanity than Martin Luther. The leader of the Protestant Reformation, Luther broke the supremacy of the Catholic Church in Europe that had endured since the time of ancient Rome. The political, spiritual, and social landscape of Europe seemed to shift overnight after Luther published his Ninety-five Theses, in direct opposition of the Pope. We may never know what life today would have been like if Martin Luther had never been born, but we can certainly trace some of the modern world's greatest victories, and most horrific tragedies, back to this one German theologian.
